All You’ve Ever Wanted to Know
Whether you are trying to take care of your existing sealant or you are planning to call us in to remove and install new mastic, it’s really important to know how to look after it. Luckily for you, we have all the tips on sealant care that you need! As experts in mastic maintenance, we know how to make sure that it remains as functional and visually appealing as possible. Here is everything you need to know to prevent your sealant from cracking and peeling!
Keep it clean
There’s nothing exciting about it, but keeping your mastic clean is the first step when it comes to silicone sealant care. You don’t need to use any fancy products for this; just good old-fashioned soapy water will do the trick. In fact, you should avoid overly harsh cleaning products as these could break the mastic down over time.
How often should you clean your mastic? Just remember to do it every time you give your bathroom its weekly once over!
Make sure it’s dry
We know that this might seem like a pointless endeavour. After all, mastic is going to get wet. That’s why it’s there in the first place! You don’t want water to be sitting on top of it for any longer than you need it to, though. So after you have cleaned it, make sure to dry it off with a soft cloth, and do the same after a long bath or shower if you can too.
Extend sealant lifespan with proper ventilation
As you have probably figured out by now, excess moisture is one of the things that causes sealant to break down over time. We know that it is often in places where you have a lot of water or steam, like kitchens and bathrooms. The solution? Crack open a window! Effective ventilation is one of the easiest ways to stop your mastic degrading prematurely, and it won’t cost you a penny.
Keep an eye out for any signs of wear and tear
Looking after your mastic means keeping your eyes peeled. The sooner you spot a problem, the easier and less costly and disruptive it will be to fix. You’ll want to look out for your sealant cracking and peeling, along with any discolouration. Mould is a really common issue with mastic too, so be on the lookout for that!
